Villa Ambelonas' rustic atmosphere and charm is sure to please those looking for the experience of living in a real Greek country home with the added touch of a private swimming pool. Surrounded by huge old eucalyptus and fruit trees, this lovely cottage was once a vineyard and corn milling cottage and has a tiny church on its property that was frequented by the nearby neighbors in the days of old. The house has 2 bedrooms and 2 w/c shower rooms.

INTERIOR
A feeling of the islands history is immediately evident when entering this newly renovated cottage by way of the spacious dining room with low wooden ceilings and large table for family gatherings. The furnishings are comfortable and in an island country style. Off of the dining room is a bedroom with two single beds and a spacious w/c shower room. An open doorway at the opposite end leads to the brand new country kitchen, which is fully equipped and includes a washing machine. There is a back kitchen door leading to the rear of the house where there is a washing line. Continuing around the L-shaped design of the house, an open doorway leads to a spacious living room, which has a large fireplace and a sitting area with two Skopelitian sofas and comfortable chairs. The best feature of this room though, is the huge glass doors which lead to the terrace.

This large terrace is surrounded by flowers and trees and has a path leading to the private swimming pool. The lovely old feel of the cottage is emphasised by the use of the various original tools and utensils to decorate its spaces. These were all found near the house and lovingly restored and displayed as a testimony to its history as a working farmhouse.The master bedroom is reached by an outside stone stairway and is an example of the original country-style bedrooms found in this type of cottage. The raw wood floors, fireplace and enormous bed were a must during the days when families spent days in the countryside, cut off from civilisation. The decor is simple and comfortable. The bed runs along one entire wall of the room and is covered with an immense mattress, which was intended to provide sleeping space for all the family together during olive or fruit picking season. The addition of a single bed is perfect for a younger child to sleep in with parents. The WC/shower room is situated on the same landing but with a separate outside entrance.

EXTERIOR
The house, which is hidden in a forest of pine trees, is centred amidst a terrace shaded by a huge old acorn tree. The patio has plenty of atmosphere and space for outdoor living with sun lounges and a table and chairs for dining al-fresco. A path leads from this terrace to the private swimming pool, set amongst the natural trees and grounds. Years ago, this land was a large vineyard, producing the fine wines that Skopelos was once famous for. There are still the remains, perfectly intact, of the original stone-built corn mill with its circular form making a picturesque place to sit and relax today. Stairs from the terrace lead to the beautiful small chapel of Panagitsa dating from 1932, which sits on the remains of a much older church. On church holidays, there were visitors from miles around to attend the services and thus, the cottage was built to have a place to gather.

SURROUNDINGS
Ambelonas Cottage is set in the countryside about 1 km off the main road that runs the length of the island. A ten-minute drive brings you to some of the islands best beaches in the area around Panormos. Mountains covered in pine forests, contrasting with the bright blue sea surround these lovely, white shingle beaches. At Panormos Beach the waterfront is lined with typical tavernas specialising in fresh local seafood and the mini-market carries most of your essentials. Alternatively, Skopelos town is approximately 20 minutes by car and here you will find a full array of shops, restaurants and cafes.Ambelonas Cottage is in a wonderful area for walking and has numerous paths and dirt tracks in the surrounding hillside to suit everyone.

SUITABILITY
Ambelonas cottage is great for couples wanting a holiday in the Greek countryside with the privacy of their own swimming pool. Families too can enjoy the peace and nature with plenty of space to explore, but be close enough to the islands best beaches and restaurants.

SERVICES
Getaways2 provides (through our local representative) cleaning service and linen change twice a week, including arrival cleaning (excluding Sundays). Additional maid service can usually be arranged upon request and at an extra fee. Baby cots, high chairs and extra beds can also be arranged on request as well as welcome packs, flowers, champagne, etc. Please speak directly with our office staff for prices and availability.

Our representative's Service Office is located on the harbour front in Skopelos Town. A personal villa visit will be made the day following the arrival to answer any individual queries. The staff can help you arrange excursions & car hire, provide tips on what to see and do and let you know of any special events that might be happening during your stay.
